These are some of the most common questions asked by our customers.
Here at Feet Down Waterfowl safety is our #1 priority. For this reason we do not allow customer dogs in the field. Unfortunately, even though many of you put the same time and energy into your dogs as we do, we cannot ensure all dogs are steady and safe to everyone else in the field. Many of our guides also run dogs as they are a key asset for us in the field when the action is hot and heavy.
We do a lot of our hunting in heated pits- which is generally very comfortable and a light bib, field pant, hoodie and or a jacket will be sufficient. It is best to be prepared for the weather of any sort, rain, snow, or brutal cold winds. We recommend a waterproof boot, and gloves and hat according to the weather forecasted during your hunt. Camo clothing is not required however earth tones and or black is recommended- We do not recommend you show up in blue jeans with a blaze orange hat.
We supply everything needed for your hunt to happen. You just need proper clothing, gun, shells, and licenses.
Minnesota requires:
Federal Duck Stamp
State Waterfowl Stamp
Small Game license
HIP certification
Recommended shot sizes:
12 or 20 gauge 3" steel #2,3, or BB
High density 3" #2-5
We do have several blinds that are equipped for cooking however this does not mean the spot you are at each given day will be able to cook. It is simply considered a bonus for the day if you are able to have the hot meal in the field experience. We recommend you bring snacks, non alcoholic beverages, coffee, etc.
For our September/October hunts we are generally in the field for the morning hunt until mid day or a limit is reached. It is important for us to use our evenings to scout and take advantage of having a good game plan for the next day.
Our November/December hunts are much more based upon weather- these can be morning hunts, all day hunts, or afternoon hunts.. Temperature, wind, location, sun or clouds are several factors that play a role in when the best time to hunt is.
Yes, you can book a private hunt. Our private hunts are a minimum group size of 8 hunters, however we do not require a certain number of hunters to book a hunt with us.
We typically will have our blinds full during prime season so often we combine smaller groups. We have pits in several locations to hunt. The quality of your hunt is most important to us. That being said, yes we sometimes do fail. It is hunting and birds are never guaranteed.
Feel free to ask us anything we may have missed!
